Yesterday Is Now Last Year

Time flies so fast, doesn’t it? It feels like yesterday it was just 2015. Well, actually, it was 2015 yesterday, but you know what I mean. Haha.

What really amazes me every year is that a lot of things change. It’s just so amazing what a year can do. I mean, to state the obvious, just last year, on this very day, I didn’t have a blog. That’s huge a difference!

Honestly, I’m not a fan of change. I’ve never liked the idea of letting go and moving on, but that’s what New Year is about, right?

Well, change is inevitable, as they say, and I think we all know that very well. We all go through it.

Let me ask this question: If you look back on this very day of last year, what has changed? Was it you? Was it the people around you? Or like me, you just decided to grow your hair and now it’s pretty long. Well, maybe it was something less obvious like a small kind deed for that old woman you just met. Or a story you just heard that changed you as a person. Whatever it is you can think of, we all know a lot of things happened, a lot of things changed, and, now, we’re all here starting another year.

Can you just imagine that just last year that person you can’t live without now was once a stranger to you? Or just imagine that just last year that favorite song of yours wasn’t even composed yet? Or that just last year you didn’t even know how to ride a bike? (This one goes for me.) You can’t un-hear those stories. You can’t unlearn those skills. You can’t un-know those people. You can’t unlove those things. You can’t undo anything.

That’s why we move on. We don’t forget, we don’t erase. We go on with it!

I know moving on is not something one just gets used to but it’s a part of life and we have to make room for what lies ahead. We’ve heard this a lot of times but this new year, it’s a good reminder for all of us to leave everything behind now and move on.

I hope we’ll all have a blessed year.
